Dear Friends,
Welcome to the web site for Sacred Heart in Richmond Texas! Sacred Heart parish is a community of Catholic individuals dedicated to both worshiping God and putting our faith into practice in our daily lives. Sacred Heart parish resides in the shadow of the Fort Bend County Courthouse but stands tall in its place in the community of Richmond.
In 1866 a number of Catholics came together to celebrates their common faith and the Mission that was formed was the basis for the founding of a Catholic parish in Richmond in 1935. Since 1935, Sacred Heart parish has continued its growth. As of the writing of this letter, Sacred Heart now has over 1600 families who continue to gather in expressing their Catholic faith.
The English word Church comes from the Greek word EKKLESIA. This term means gathering. As a gathering of Catholic Christians we are linked to the Catholic Church throughout the world as well as our local Diocese of Galveston-Houston. However, our parish gathers as a special, local family.
Our parish is defined by the many parishioners and guests who worship with us each Sunday. Our religious education programs for youth which numbers almost 1700 children, our Life Teen program for High School students, and our many educational programs for adults. Sacred Heart is also intimately linked with the local food pantry, Helping Hands. We are also sponsors of Pregnancy Resource, which helps women in crisis pregnancy situations.
